POWER CUT COMPENSATION

by June Allison

It would seem that all those inconvenienced by the recent power cuts are entitled to some sort of compensation.

Email @ feedback@sse.com

or phone 0800 912 0012 and quote your customer account number.

I was informed today that we are entitled to £20 for up to 18 hours off and some unidentified sum after that.

It may not be much but better in our pockets than the electricity company's.

Thanks June, if only you'd been on the island when the power cuts were happening - a whole lot of people would have been a whole lot better off.

Sandy Morton says

Thanks for the tip June but my supplier is E-on and the service provider is Scottish Hydro.  Anyone else?

June Allison says

My service provider is Scottish Hydro too but seems they come under the umbrella of SSE.

Anyway that's what they told me when I rang.

Maybe if everyone makes a fuss it won't take them so long to bring in the generators if it happens again.

All the news focus seems to have been on Bute- I've not been able to get any information online about Millport! Surely Radio Scotland should have picked up the story and given locals some much needed updated information?

M Janette McGeoch says

Perhaps it is because I was born and grew up in Millport with no electricity that I did not find the power cut as drastic as some.  We had lanterns, a camp cooker and thanks to Kenny Dalton, lots of gas refills,  plus warm clothing, thankful that we were not in a flood situation. Some things are unavoidable and I would think the men out working on the repair would do their best.

just thought i.,d let everyone  know i,ve had a respose from SSE today to say we are entitled to no compensation as there was no negligence on the part of SSE

ROSEMARY HARKIN says

In RESPONSE to my recent posting I can spell ,I was just so mad at the time of posting with the RESPONSE I had recieved from SSE

June Allison says

Thanks Rosemary. I phoned again today - new number - 0800300999 to be told that there are 70,000 cases outstanding and will be dealt with on a case by case basis. The advice is the same to email feedback@sse.com but that SOME people have received cheques.

In order to try to get this sorted out so that we all finally know, I intend to ask our MSP Kenneth Gibson to please speak to someone higher up than will speak to us to find out the situation for Millport.

Margaret Smith says

Just so as everyone will be aware, the Community Council has been "on the case" with regard to correspondence with Ken Gibson, MSP

We have been in touch by email since the Thursday of the outage, and we have received a copy of a letter sent by him to the CEO of Scottish Hydro on that date, outlining the general dissatisfaction of the community regarding comparitive assistance given to Cumbrae by NAC and others.

We have also had a letter from Mr Gibson detailing a meeting with the CEO of Calmac on Friday 13th (ominous!) where details of how to overcome the lack of slipway lights during a power outage could be overcome. In the same letter,we are advised that the CEO of NAC is looking into how best to ensure that emergency resources are available to assist islanders should another power cut take place. Time will tell on the results
