14/6/2009Our brilliant Cumbrae Queen Gala Day!
The afternoon started with country dancing and a ceilidh on the grass, and then the parade and royal procession with the Millport Pipe Band made their way from the Pier to the Garrison. There was a special reception inside for the Royal Party and their families, and everyone enjoyed a slice of the Cumbrae Queen cake baked by Christine McDavid.
The mini gala with Stuart Cape DJ was a whole lot of fun and a fantastic day was had by all! Thank you to the committee and volunteers who made the day such a great success.
See more photos of the event in our Events & Entertainment Gallery, and feel free to post your own feedback, pictures or videos here on s1millport. Check back later in the week for a video of the parade!
- Congratulations to everyone involved in the Cumbrae Queen Gala Day...your photos brought back many happy memories of time spent in Millport over the years. Terry Dick.
- A big thank you to all who made the Cumbrae Queen Gala such an enjoyable day. It brought back memories from previous Gala weeks held at the Garrison.
- I saw the picture of the board with the previous Cumbrae Queens. Did they go as far back as the sixties? When did the tradition begin? There was an anomaly in my year possibly, as I am sure there were two Cumbrae Queens from the same year (born 1957). There were certainly two lots of page boys. I was never chosen!!
- Hi, I am Neil McPhail. I am not sure what year but it must have been late 60s early 70s, I was a page boy and I know that my two sisters were involved, one as an attendant one as the queen. That would have been mid sixties.
