Mysterious Object in Kames Bay

Can anyone throw some light on the appearance of what seems to be an armoured cable arising out of the sand on the east side of Kames Bay?  Each tide seems to be exposing more of the cable and it now has a loop at one end which could trap an unsuspecting foot as it is completely covered at full tide.  Although the cable has had an outer casing, in much of the exposed area this has broken away and the steel armour is turning to rust. There is now some 25m of the cable above the surface of the sand.

Just wondered if something can be done either to re-sink it or have it removed if it is no longer used?

I suspect it's one of 2 power cables that used to come ashore at Kames Bay. They've been appearing and disappearing for at least 35 years, and are regularly found by students digging !

It's been there as long as I can remeber and I think it was a power cable.  It was checked for safety a while ago and I actually thought it had been removed.  Hope that someone with a better memory comes along.
