As I pointed out in another thread the damage was opposite Mount Stuart Street.  If it was opposite the Tavern which is much higher up and which has a great amount of natural sea defences then Millport would be disappearing under the waves.  I have already asked NAC to look into improving coastal defences in this area bit I ain't holding my breath!

All of the photos referred to are at www.millport.net and clearly show the sea coming onto the road, carrying large bits of broken prom with it!

Sandy, I think you are being a little pedantic. I am sure NAC will not need a GPS to find the damaged section from opposite the Tavern. It's good that the repairs are imminent (hopefully happening as I write). Whilst carrying out these particular repairs let's hope that NAC carry out a survey of the rest of the entire sea wall. There is a major crack in the wall opposite The Ritz Cafe that is, I would suggest, unlikely to survive the next storm. And that could happen at any time given the current weather patterns.

Tom, you obviously have no knowledge or uderstanding of the workings of the local authority ( I do since I served as an elected member for 4 years but have also dealt with CDC and NAC at great length over many years).  A great many of the staff of NAC will never visit Millport but if they do and look at a street map they will be easily able to find the location - to describe the damage as being opposite the Tavern is not only wrong but is not an easily identifiable location to someone who is a stranger to Millport.  The repairs were supposed to commence about 10 days ago and I am disappointed that this has not happened and if you have a concern about the sea wall can I ask you to pass on your concern to one of our local Councillors?

Tom.  Since your initial posting about the sea wall I have been advised that NAC engineers have visted the site and have found nothing of significant concern regarding the structural integrity of the sea wall but that they will continue to monitor the situation.

Sandy, we will have to agree to disagree about my location description. However, many thanks for the update on the engineer's review of the entire sea wall. Let's hope that their risk assessment holds water, as they say.

Also good to see that the building materials are on site so, subject to some dry weather, hopefully the work will be completed in the week ahead.

The prom now appears to have been completed and I had also complained about the grass verges in the landward area not being cut.  Thanks to Cllr Tom Mrashall for his efforts which appear to have brought both problems to a speedy and satisfactory conclusion.

Sandy, do you happen to know why the ground at the cross houses section of the promenade has never been repaired?  As with the wall, there is the potential for an accident.

You'll need to show me the bit you mean.  The end of the prom wall was being repaired at the same time as the repair opposite my house.

You cant miss it Sandy. Its the ground behind the sea wall at the gable end of the cross houses. Even if someone filled it in with rubble with a top layer of soil from somewhere it would grass seed itself.

Sandy, I'm not sure if you had a hand in getting this work done but it certainly does make a difference. Another welcome improvement to the seafront. Maybe the generous soul who provided the material could also fill the small gap left behind the recently repaired promenade wall just to complete the picture. Well done that person!
