Hollow Earth

Hello Auchinmurn:

I managed to import a copy Of Hollow Earth and really enjoyed it. Fantasy is not my strong suit but the story was wild and the use of the Cumbraes as Auchinmurn and Era Mina was extremely clever.

I was wondering what the reaction as been in Millport?

The book seems to be crying out to be converted into a movie script. However, that does not guarantee it would be shot on the Cumbraes but it sure would be a big deal if it were. Actually, I thought the authors missed an opportunity in the acknowledgments to tie up their islands with the Cumbraes. I know anybody with minimal knowledge of the area knows what actually sits between Bute and Largs but there are bound to be lots of readers, especially on this side of the pond, who don't know and there might even be those who make a special trip to try and find Auchinmurn.

Has there been much media coverage over there on the book and its location? I hope so.

Hi Edwin,

The TV rights have just been agreed with Zodiac for a series based on the book. Book two 'The Bone Quill' is due for publication next February. The authors have been promoting the island in their media coverage over here. The US publication of Hollow Earth is scheduled for October & a media tour is being planned for the US. The authors were at the recent ComicCon in San Diego promoting the book. So don't worry, we're keeping up with it over here!

Hi Edwin - some of us went up to see the authors at their Glasgow signing so they know how keen we are to promote Cumbrae.

Hi Paul, I think Edwin makes a great point. Once the book launches in the USA there is every possibility of an upsurge in 'Discovering Auchinmurn' activities. I tried to Google Auchinmurn but came back with no results - just lots for auchinairn. Anyway of getting Google to pick it up do you think?

Currently 824 results if you google Auchinmurn - This being the first one once auchinairn is excluded.

Part of the novel is set on the fictitious island of Auchinmurn, which is inspired by the islands of Great Cumbrae and Little Cumbrae off the coast of Largs.
 
The third or fourth is a link to the millport.org website. The more the word is used, the more search results will appear until auchinairn is excluded automatically. This page already appears at about 9th or 10th position.
 
My dealings have mainly been with the UK publishers - it is a different publisher in the US - but as June pointed out, John & Carole Barrowman are aware of our interest. Rest assured that the Tourist Board are not going to let such an opportunity slip by - that is why progress is being monitored & acted upon as required.
