10/10/2008Gordon Black takes up position as Temporary Development Manager in the Garrison
Gordon Black has started working in the Garrison this week as Temporary Development Manager. He has previously worked as a property manager and has 30 odd years of experience in the field. He says he is looking forward to the challenge and knows the island well.
The Cumbrae Community Development Company employs a full-time Development Manager to develop and grow the business for the community and visitors to the island. This was a condition of the funding package and the post is fully funded for a period of five years.
The Development Manager is responsible for managing and developing Garrison House and grounds, as well as generating income through the cafe, an events programme and venue hire. They also have a wider community remit and will work with local organisations on a variety of projects that will have an economic benefit to the island.
Gordon's office is in the Garrison and he can be contacted on 01475 531381 or email gcblack@btconnect.com.
- I don't know if the grounds behind the Garrison, ie the Old Fairground and Pitch n Putt, belong to the Garrison or the council, but what would be nice in this area is maybe an adventure park, with tree houses and bridges, similar to Kelburn and Blair Drummond, there could be a family picnic area and this would be used all year round. So keeping the trees etc that are there and building round it! Not sure if this is the right place to suggest.
- I think that's a great idea - the area round the Garrison used to be a magnet for children in the summer months, and it certainly has nothing for children now.
- That is a good idea!!!!
