13/11/2008"Ferry Cancelled" warning light - Update and good news from Alan Hill!
The flashing light, indicating that the Ferry Service had been cancelled was removed from "Cosy Corner", West Bay some time ago.
I understand that it is the Council's responsibility to replace it. When?
-
The ferry warning lights were initially provided by Cunninghame District Council - later North Ayrshire Council.
To the best of my knowledge the Council do not have a responsibility to replace them.
However the simplest way to take this forward is to approach either the Community Council or one of the local Councillors. There is also a response form on NAC website which I have always had a very prompt response from.
- Thanks for the info Sandy, I'll certainly take your advice and keep s1millport up to date with developments.

My understanding is that the council maintains the lights on behalf of CalMac and work is carried out by a local electrician.
A while ago the council was looking at replacing the West Bay light. I'll check for you and get back.

I have checked with the council and can confirm that the replacement of the light has been a protracted affair due for a number of reasons, one being the electricity supply and another the BT connection which allows it to be operated by Caledonian Macbrayne at Largs Pier.
I am pleased to be able to advise that the issue with BT has now been resolved and the contractor intends to have a new warning light erected and operating within the next 10 days.
The light will be solar powered and independent of an electricity supply.
Hopefully this should provide a more reliable service to the ferry user in Millport in the future.
