Early arrival for "Sail & Oar on Cumbrae"

by Charles Kelly
  • The "Orcuan" at the sailing school

Sail & Oar on Cumbrae is a celebration of maritime crafts and culture from the Celtic language regions of Scotland, Galicia, the Basque Country and Ireland. It is taking place  on 14th and 15th of August.

The first boat to arrive on the Island is the "Orcuan" she is an eight oar galley built by Glagael and modelled on a 1000-year-old Scottish prototype. She can be seen moored at watersports centre pontoon.

Other boats will be arriving for the event from around Scotland and from the other Celtic countries. A comprehensive program of events on water and ashore is planned and full details will be released shortly. Watch S1millport and local shops for details. Other information at www.sailandoar.co.uk
