A trip down memory lane
10 December, 2007A local author and historian has written a new book about Cumbrae that will be available to buy in time for Christmas. Former Millport town clerk Duncan Campbell, now resident in Largs, is author of Some Cumbrae Yesterdays, a richly illustrated look at the history of the island.
Mr Campbell, whose writes as J R D Campbell, says: 'In essence I have tried to make the book show a summary of the island life from the early Viking days onward, and to provide the facilities for visitors of all ages and types seeking relaxation'.
This will be Mr Campbell's fifth volume about the area. His earlier titles include Millport and the Cumbraes - A History and Guide, Clyde Coast Smuggling, and A Peep into Little Cumbrae's Past.
Our picture, kindly provided by Mr Campbell, shows the Boys Brigade on a Saturday outing. Does it bring back any memories?
Some Cumbrae Yesterdays is available to buy at the Ritz Cafe, the Smillie Centre, Miscellany and the University Marine Biological Station.
Mr Campbell will be signing copies at the Smillie Centre on Thursday, December 20 from 11am to noon and from 2pm to 3pm.
