Hunterston Group of Websites

  • The Hunterston A Story

For most people on Cumbrae they will know Hunterston due to the two nuclear power stations, the former construction yard and the coal terminal, but there is more to the place than that. There is also a country farming estate.

This group of sites aims to educate and inform people about the local area they live in but don't actually know.

The sites are broken down to individual places but there is also the main site that gives information on the whole area and the additional sites give more detailed specific information.

These sites are not made by a comple stranger on the other side of the world who has never been there, it is made by a local person from the Hunterston/West Kilbride area.

The main link to access these sites is:-

www.hunterston.eu

I would welcome any images anyone has of the Oilrig Construction and floating out in the early 1980s and anything else Hunterston related that you may be willing to submit. The websites are totally NON commercial and not for any gain.

I can remember clearly the oil rig being floated out from Hunterston. It was one of those things when no one new exactly when it was going and so we checked every morning to see if there was any movement. When it finally went it was a fantastic sight. The tugs used were massive and the way they maneuvered this great structure out into the channel was amazing.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
