I would be interested in hearing from relatives of Jenny and Anna Reid who were two sisters of a larger family.  I met them on holiday staying at the Towers back in the 70s.  We used to go bike trips and drop in at their grandmother and aunties house round at Kames bay.  Can anyone help?

Lynne Hadley says

I would be very interested in such a group, Margaret.  I have been researching my Finnie family for years, and have a lot of information to share.  Also, I am trying to track down the graves of members of the various branches of the Finnie family which I believe are in Millport.  I am also led to believe that the Finnies once owned Kirkton Farm?  Cheers, Lynne.

My grandmother, Margaret Clemenson (Peggy) worked in one of the big houses in Millport back in 1941 when she met and married my grandfather, Andrew McCall (Andy) who was a farm worker at Netherton Farm on 1st October 1941.  They moved to Balloch Cottages and lived there for a short period of time with my Aunt Margaret who was born in July 1942 before moving back to the mainland.  Does anyone have any detail regarding this?

Irene D. Wright says

Does anyone remember the Neil family, Hector Dick Neil and Elizabet Campbell Neil. They were my grandparents and lived at 10,Chricton st. They had daughters named Isabella,Molly or Mary, Annie and Masie Neil. My grandmother died a month after I was born in April 1946 and along with my Mother (Mary) they are laid to rest at the new cemetery in Millport. I know that my aunt Annie married a Sandy Lochhead and had a sweet shop for a while. I have a picture of Uncle Sandy and Donnie McLachlan in Donnies boat "The Merlin"in Millport Bay. Don't know what year it was, but the picture was taken by Walter Kerr Millport photographer at that time. Anyone remember a Seamill convalescent home? Seems thats where Aunt Masie spent some time.Any input would be totally appreciated.I'll try to post a few pics if I can.Thanks.Irene.

Good morning Mary,

Would that be the same family that had the Firntry Bay Lemonade Factory in the 1940s.

I have been collecting information from various resources about Millport I was toying with the idea of having a web site with this information but I have to be careful about what kind of information can be in the public domain - it might be better if we could have a group who would be willing to do look ups for others who cannot access the resources.

Heather  -   St. Andrews Home is one of the places where it would be interesting to be able to access records I will try to find out what is available but there are closure dates on medical records for individuals meaning that indivual records from St. Andrews home would not be available yet for a number of years.

Mary - do you have dates as to when the Kennedy family lived in Miller Street.

Margaret

Sandy Morton says

Mary - you shouldn't have a big problem with this one - there are still quite a few people about with family or work connections to Arthur - 12 (?) Miller Street, 1 up right.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
