I would be interested in hearing from relatives of Jenny and Anna Reid who were two sisters of a larger family.  I met them on holiday staying at the Towers back in the 70s.  We used to go bike trips and drop in at their grandmother and aunties house round at Kames bay.  Can anyone help?

Lynne Hadley says

I would be very interested in such a group, Margaret.  I have been researching my Finnie family for years, and have a lot of information to share.  Also, I am trying to track down the graves of members of the various branches of the Finnie family which I believe are in Millport.  I am also led to believe that the Finnies once owned Kirkton Farm?  Cheers, Lynne.

My grandmother, Margaret Clemenson (Peggy) worked in one of the big houses in Millport back in 1941 when she met and married my grandfather, Andrew McCall (Andy) who was a farm worker at Netherton Farm on 1st October 1941.  They moved to Balloch Cottages and lived there for a short period of time with my Aunt Margaret who was born in July 1942 before moving back to the mainland.  Does anyone have any detail regarding this?

Irene D. Wright says

Does anyone remember the Neil family, Hector Dick Neil and Elizabet Campbell Neil. They were my grandparents and lived at 10,Chricton st. They had daughters named Isabella,Molly or Mary, Annie and Masie Neil. My grandmother died a month after I was born in April 1946 and along with my Mother (Mary) they are laid to rest at the new cemetery in Millport. I know that my aunt Annie married a Sandy Lochhead and had a sweet shop for a while. I have a picture of Uncle Sandy and Donnie McLachlan in Donnies boat "The Merlin"in Millport Bay. Don't know what year it was, but the picture was taken by Walter Kerr Millport photographer at that time. Anyone remember a Seamill convalescent home? Seems thats where Aunt Masie spent some time.Any input would be totally appreciated.I'll try to post a few pics if I can.Thanks.Irene.

I have been collecting information from various resources about Millport I was toying with the idea of having a web site with this information but I have to be careful about what kind of information can be in the public domain - it might be better if we could have a group who would be willing to do look ups for others who cannot access the resources.

Heather  -   St. Andrews Home is one of the places where it would be interesting to be able to access records I will try to find out what is available but there are closure dates on medical records for individuals meaning that indivual records from St. Andrews home would not be available yet for a number of years.

Mary - do you have dates as to when the Kennedy family lived in Miller Street.

Margaret

Sandy Morton says

I am trying to find ancestors James and Christina McLachlan.  They had the following boys:-

John

James

Alexander

Robert Lee

James and Christina lived in Barend Street, Guildford Street and James Mac eventually died at 26 Chrichton St, Millport.

I notice there is another lady whose relatives lived in Chrichton St and knew McLachlans.

Would anyone know of this family?

Cheers

Linda Tytla says

Hi,  My Mom's family are named Kennedy.   My grandmother owned a home on George Street in the 1930's for sure.   Would love to find out the exact house number.   Does anyone know the best place to find past addresses for those who lived in Millport during the 30's?    My Mom passed in 2008 and although she spoke of MIllport often we never made it there together while she was alive (although we visited Scotland often)  So she never got to tell me what actual home it was.   Her Mom and Dad were John and Elizabeth Kennedy -  Her grandmother who owned the home was either ANNIE JOHNSTON KENNEDY;  or ELIZABETH JAMIESON HARVEY.   Any help would be so appreciated.   I was there with my family a few weeks ago from the USA and took many pictures of the homes.  If I could find out which one it was it would mean so much to me.   My Mom (Mary Kennedy) had the following siblings:   Bessie, Annie, Robert, Tom, Jessie, and Agnes.   They all vacationed in Millport often as kids.   It is a lovely charming wee place and I can't wait to visit again one day.    Thanks for any help!!!!   Linda Marshall Tytla (Kennedy)

Moira Holmes says

Hello Mary I am not related but we lived next door to Arthur Kennedy at 12 Miller Street for about 10 years in the 70s and 80s. We were both on 1st floor and it was my parents holiday house. We knew him very well. He had lived in Largs for a while I remember before that. He was a very keen gardener and our back court always looked amazing with all the colour of the flowers all summer long. I often wondered if he was still alive or what had happened to him. We are going back to visit millport this Easter and it will be my first time back in 20+ years. Very emotional as I lost my mum a few months ago. Moira Holmes (McLaughlin)

Bridget Hunter says

I would like to join a group that is researching family in Millport but I live in South Africa!

I have traced my husband's family to James Hunter 1792- (son of William Hunter) and Catherine Kennedy 1792- (dau of Neil Kennedy).  Their son Robert Hunter 1826-1899 married Agnes Paterson 1828- who was the daughter of Charles Paterson 1795-1849 and Elisabeth Hunter 1804-1831.  I haven't been able to find out who Elisabeth Hunter's parents were - hopefully they weren't closely related to Robert Hunters family!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
