The Writer's group was formed early this year. The aim of the group is to offer fellow writer's support and encourage them with their writing. We are not a tutoring group, however we hope to have a visiting tutor attending our meetings in the future. Many enquiries regarding the group are from people that have written in the past, and would quite like to 'try their hand' again. They may not feel confident enough to share their work with 'strangers' but we are there to offer encouragement. Those attending do not have to read out their work, if they feel uncomfortable with public speaking. It is always beneficial to attend a few readings, to get a taster of the aims of the group. If you feel that the group is what you are looking for, then, we would be delighted if you joined us.

We were hoping to run a poetry competition for St Valentine's day. Entries can be submitted into a box in Garrison House foyer from week beginning Monday 1st February. There are two sections for Adults and one for the children of Cumbrae Primary. The theme of the competition is good ole fashioned 'Love'. The format can be a poem, love sonnet, or short story. The deadline for submissions is the 10th February. We are restricting short stories to an A4 page, approx 150-200 words. If it is acceptable the winner of the children's section will read out their winning entry at the school assembly. Entries in the adult section will be judged and winner notified so please put contact details on the entry. We are hoping to have a poetry reading of entries, in The Garrison foyer, on Sunday 14th of February. details will follow. Contact bernicemacleod@live.co.uk for further details.
